Old Jack Ringwood was one of Avery's crew. Cherub told the First Doctor that he had a wooden leg and "was the finest master gunner that never served his King". His surname was used in a riddle: "This is Deadman's secret key, Ringwood, Smallbeer, Gurney". He died at sea.
Polly Wright spotted his name on a tombstone in the crypt of a Cornish church, marking the location of Avery's treasure. (TV: The Smugglers)
