James Drummond was a close friend of James Robert McCrimmon. The pair were inseparable, and Jamie later recalled that no one could make him laugh as well as Jimmy. Since they shared the name "James", Drummond was known as Jimmy while McCrimmon was known as Jamie. Jamie described him as "strong as an ox" and they'd often get each other out of trouble.

Together, they served at the Battle of Culloden. During the battle, Jimmy put himself in the way of a shot fired by an English soldier, saving Jamie's life. Jimmy died that day in Jamie's arms, an event Jamie would later recall on the planet Sora. (AUDIO: The Phantom Piper [+]Loading...["The Phantom Piper (audio story)"])
