John Benton's mother was the mother of John and Chris, as well as their brother George, the eldest; and sister Charlotte, the youngest. (PROSE: Wartime)

Mrs. Benton did not want her husband to return to World War II after his embarkation leave in 1944, and was devastated when she received a letter informing her of his death in Normandy.
John saw her crying and told her not to worry, saying he would look after her and just be like his father. (HOMEVID: Wartime)
