John Brown was a sculptor for the first series of the supermarionation television series Thunderbirds. This included the episode The Man from MI.5, which crossed over into the Doctor Who universe by featuring an appearance by the Daleks. He worked as a sculpting supervisor for the second series, as well as the film Thunderbirds Are Go, for which he was also a character sculptor.

Brown was also involved in several other creations of Gerry Anderson which shared crossovers with the DWU. He was a scluptor for the entire run of Stingray and a sculpting supervisor for several episodes of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.

Brown's notable film credits include his work on the Alien franchise; he was a senior special effects technician on Aliens and Alien 3. He also filled this position on Jabberwocky, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and, most recently, the television miniseries Band of Brothers in 2001. Brown was broadly credited with special effects for the 1998 film The Avengers.
