John Read
John Read (14 November 1920-13 April 2006[1]) was the director of photography for the first series of the supermarionation television series Thunderbirds. This included the episode The Man from MI.5, which crossed over into the Doctor Who universe by featuring an appearance by the Daleks. He worked as an associate producer for the second series, as well as the film Thunderbirds Are Go.
Read was also involved in several other creations of Gerry Anderson which shared crossovers with the DWU. He was a director of photography on several episodes of Supercar and Fireball XL5 as well as for all of Stingray, in addition to a lighting cameraman on most episodes of the latter. He was also the associate producer for the entire run of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. On other Anderson productions, Read was the camera operator for Torchy the Battery Boy, received credits for special effects and as the director of photography on Four Feather Falls, and was the director of photography for the films Crossroads to Crime and Doppelgänger.
Read's other notable work includes his role as a cinematographer on The Adventures of Rupert Bear, as the producer of The Munch Bunch, and as the producer and director of Here Comes Mumfie.
