A lighthouse was a structure built close to water to aid ships by guiding them with a beam of light that allowed them to see hazards to navigation. In the 1970s, Professor Tansbury conducted experiments in a disused lighthouse off the coast of Porthferiot, Cornwall, resulting in the creation of a giant lizard, the growth of which destroyed the lighthouse. (COMIC: The Tansbury Experiment)

In 2006, the Cynrogs used the Black Island lighthouse as their base while trying to recreate Balor. (PROSE: The Nightmare of Black Island)

When the Fugitive Doctor had to hide herself using the Chameleon Arch she was given false memories of having lived in a lighthouse. Disguised as Ruth Clayton she would sometimes get visions of this lighthouse. The Thirteenth Doctor prompted her to go her childhood lighthouse where she eventually broke the glass, freeing her Time Lord consciousness. Her TARDIS was also buried near the building.
