History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Eleventh Doctor and Rory Williams once briefly visited Machu Picchu while attempting to get back to London, 1814 to retrieve Amy Pond.

Rory leaned out, quickly surmised that this was not London on 17 October 1814, and the pair once again departed. (COMIC: The Doctor and the Nurse [+]Loading...["The Doctor and the Nurse (comic story)"])

At some point, the Incasaurs opened a portal to the city from another dimension, in order to escape their own world before the loss of their sun. In doing so, they inadvertently created a time hole. The Tenth Doctor and Heather McCrimmon arrived to investigate the "temporal hiccups" which resulted.

By 1911, Machu Picchu was considered to have been lost. Explorer Hiram Bingham traversed Peru in search of the "lost city", and upon making his discovery, encountered the Doctor and Heather, already there before him. The active time hole allowed for travel between 1911 and the time of the original Incan inhabitants.

Hiram fell through the hole, travelling back to Incan times. This created an alternate timeline in which the Incasaurs were able to take over. However, their plans were averted when Hiram shook hands with his older future self, in 1911, and thereby prevented the time holes from ever existing.
