The Magi (singular Magus) were four wise men who wished to bring gifts to a special baby. Three of the Magi, Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar, navigated by the stars to find the baby, bringing him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The fourth Magi, Nayigeren, searched for the baby using time, and as a result he was four years too late, as the Fourth Doctor informed him. (PROSE: The Doctor's Cross Word)
