Mark Thompson (born 31 July 1957[1]) was the Director-General of the BBC from 2004-2012, covering the entirety of the production and broadcast of the first Russell T Davies era of Doctor Who, and the early part of the Steven Moffat era. He was succeeded by George Entwistle.
