Martine King
Martine King was the wife of Cassandra King. She met her whilst in university, and she beat her in all her examinations. She eventually went to Callous with Cassandra after Elliot King's suicide. She was a competent pilot, and was able to bypass Teremon's blockade. She didn't like the fact the Cassandra gave the Ood names. She helped with the work. She wanted to hide Jacques' suicide note to make things better. (AUDIO: Call for the Dead [+]Loading...["Call for the Dead (audio story)"])
She talked with the War Master about his improvements to the mine and the colony's system. She was worried about her wife due to her obsession with the Mine. She worked out how to pilot the Master's space yacht. She then piloted it offworld with the Swenyo. To hide from Teremon's scans she had to pilot it on manual powered off. She stayed in a relay station after the yacht was damaged. (AUDIO: The Glittering Prize [+]Loading...["The Glittering Prize (audio story)","The Glittering Prize"])
She was left alone with only an Ood for company. She started hearing strange noises. She gradually became more and more paranoid. The Ood wanted to know more of why she was doing, just as exercising and space walks. She later started hallucinating, which included her mother. She was determined to fix the food machine but fell inside it. She saw The Master inside the machine, which was a less sophisticate version of him, who wanted to eat her. She argued with a hallucination of Cassie but it disappeared. She put on a space suit which stopped her hearing her mother. She eventually saw her mother as a tree growing Ood fruit. This was the effect of the Swenyo. She committed suicide by walking outside the gravity field and using up the oxygen floating in space. Her radio started working before loosing oxygen and regretted her decision, first she thought she head a call from Cassie. The Master contacted her saying that he had left her alone on the relay station with no Ood and she couldn't have had a message from Cassie as he was blocking all signals. She died hearing her mother and the Ood chastising her.
