Mary (mythology)

Mary was the wife of Joseph and mother of Jesus. When Caesar Augustus decreed that governors conduct the Census of Quirinius in 6 AD, pregnant Mary and her husband Joseph journeyed to Bethlehem. Upon reaching the town, they found that all the rooms at the inn had been taken, and Mary was forced to give birth in a stable. (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac) The Tenth Doctor noted that he got the last room. (TV: Voyage of the Damned) These events, when recounted in the Gospel of Saint Luke, formed the basis of the Christian celebration of Christmas. (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac)

Dodo Chaplet played Mary in a nativity play, stuffing a pillow up her front and riding into Bethlehem on a hobby horse. (PROSE: The Man in the Velvet Mask)

Amy Pond played Mary, opposite Rory Williams as Joseph, in their nativity play. (COMIC: Imaginary Enemies)
