Matt was the driver of the car with the number plate NEH 793W, which killed Pete Tyler on Jordan Road on 7 November 1987. Rather than checking on his victim, he panicked and drove away, never reporting the crime or being caught.
When Rose Tyler's actions saved Pete's life, a breach in the fabric of time opened up and Matt and his car were projected a few miles down the road to the Parish of St Christopher's. Matt was caught in an endless cycle of driving and panicking around the church until Pete realised what had happened. He ran out in front of the car and was killed. This time, Matt stopped and waited for the police. Pete died in the arms of a mysterious blonde no one ever traced. The blonde was in fact Rose Tyler. (TV: Father's Day)
