In some accounts, Venus was home to metal seas.

In 1289 Cathay, Susan compared the metal seas of Venus to the metaphor of the soon-to-be moonlit desert being a "great silver sea". (TV: "The Singing Sands" [+]Part of Marco Polo, Loading...{"namedep":"The Singing Sands (2)","1":"Marco Polo (TV story)"}) In another telling of these events, Ping-Cho then asked Susan to tell her more about the metal seas in exchange for accompanying her outside the tent and into the sands, before being distracted when following Tegana's suspicious exit from the encampment. When Charlton Mackerel corrected the Eighth Doctor's claim that ostriches buried their heads in sand, he asserted that Venusian Ostriches did, before "peculiarly" remembering the metal seas of Venus. Later, in the 280th issue of The Druimport Entwister, a classified was posted for a second diving excursion into the metal seas of Venus, relative to May 2037 Earth-time. As per the last excursion, assistants were given the option to keep certain recovered artefacts and gems and all specialised equipment being provided, with no need of surface mavity-adjusting field generators.
