Miracle (species)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

The Miracles were a posthuman offshoot of "baseline" humanity. They were a transcendental species capable of altering reality and their own bodies at will. They were divided into a number of clans, including the garden-dwelling Edenkind.

Nature[[edit] | [edit source]]

A Miracle's body was a "living posthuman miracle", hence the name. They could alter physical matter at will, levitate, survive in the void of space, and perceive higher-dimensional phenomena such as the Yssgaroth taint within a vampire. Though they were not in constant telepathic contact, the Miracles had a Miracle Mental Matrix through which they pooled knowledge, which any Miracle could call upon at will.

Unlike other transcendental species (PROSE: Samhain Miracles [+]Loading...["Samhain Miracles (short story)"]) such as the Time Lords of the Great Houses, (PROSELungbarrow [+]Loading...["Lungbarrow (novel)"]) the Miracles did not abandon "the concept of childhood"; new Miracles were collectively created by the adults of a given clan, not born, but they were "compiled" as young children. Young Miracles were not permitted to shapeshift without adult supervision, but were allowed to experiment on Halloween Day; ones too afraid to try shapeshifting even with an adult to help them through the process were given transformation tokens that would project hard-light hologram disguises.

There were Miracle clans, including the Edenkind, Ectokind and Molekind. Some had minor physical differences identifying them; for example, the subterranean Molekind had solid black eyes with no whites or irises, while the Edenkind Martin had golden eyes. History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Miracles' human ancestors were among the groups who left Earth in 2167 the aftermath of the Seventeen Years Invasion, aboard ships salvaged and modified from the invaders. Their ship was dubbed the Psyche; over the following centuries, after gaining their powers, they retained the Psyche but heavily modified into a world-ship with different sectors suited to the needs and aesthetics of the different "clans" they had split into. Having diverged from baselines relatively early, they retained some human traditions abandoned on Earth in the aftermath of the invasion, such as celebrating Halloween.

In late 2483, the Psyche spent a while in the Amazolian system. On this occasion, a recently-compiled Miracle child, Martin Edenkind, met and befriended a baseline human boy, Maurice Griss-Ventner, who was living on the Moon of Holofernes in a special habitat because one of his mothers, archaeologist Doctor Danielle Griss, was studying its Cyber-tombs. Their friendship grew over the following months despite Danielle and Lana's wariness of the Miracles. On 31 October, Martin was granted a transformation token, only to actually shapeshift by himself and slip the token to Maurice, who was thus able to disguise himself as a vampire to match Martin's werewolf as the two went trick-or-treating on the planet Karnstein. There, Maurice was briefly kidnapped by Elaine Della Spada, but rescued with Martin, who ended up ushering a reconciliation between the vampires of Karnstein and the werewolves of Argentium. Having taken longer than expected, Martin had to tell the grown-up Miracles about his misadventure after returning home, but he managed to convince them that he'd lost the transformation token, whereas he'd actually kept it for himself, promising to use it for further shenanigans in the coming year.
