Monte Cassino

Monte Cassino was the site of an ancient monastery in Italy.
In 1944, the monastery was left in ruins by the Battle of Monte Cassino, during the ongoing fighting in the Italian theatre of World War II. According to Father Antonio, the battle concluded about a month before the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith arrived in Borosini, Italy in 1944.
The monastery had been fully repaired by 1976. The Doctor took Father Antonio forward in time in the TARDIS to let him see the rebuilt monastery, as a means of gaining the priest's trust and restoring his faith. (COMIC: Treasure Trail)
