Morand was a captain in Cardinal Richelieu's personal guards in at least 1626. In that capacity he was, as a loyal servant of his master, opposed to Louis XIII's musketeers. He made a strong effort to ensure that criminal charges were brought against musketeers Delmarre and Rouffet for their reckless and likely illegal behaviour. However, his objections were instantly dismissed by the King. He was killed during an attempt on the Cardinal's life through the use of explosives. (AUDIO: The Church and the Crown)
