"My Angel Put the Devil in Me" was composed by Murray Gold for Daleks in Manhattan [+]Loading...["Daleks in Manhattan (TV story)"] as the third original song commissioned for the revived Doctor Who series, and the first to not be connected with one of the Christmas specials. It was the first of these songs to be actually performed on screen.

Actress Miranda Raison, who portrayed Tallulah in the episode, sang the version that appears in the episode. Later, when Gold expanded the song into a full-length version for the Third Series soundtrack CD, Yamit Mamo was hired to record that version. Mamo's version was later heard in part in The End of Time [+]Loading...["The End of Time (TV story)"]. Raison's performance marks the first time an original song was actually shown being performed on screen in the revived series of Doctor Who. A song original to Doctor Who, "The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon" was seen performed onscreen in the First Doctor serial The Gunfighters [+]Loading...["The Gunfighters (TV story)"].

The lyrics "one and one and one is three" also appear in the The Beatles song Come Together.
