Olive Hawthorne's mother was the mother to twin girls, Olive and Poppy Hawthorne.

She didn't understand why Olive liked going outside all the time, and used to complain when Olive brought the skulls of dead animals home. (PROSE: The Inheritance)
One morning, following Olive's meeting with Lobelia the previous night, Mrs. Hawthorne awoke Olive to ask her the whereabouts of Poppy, who had gone missing. The police searched for months, but Poppy was never found.
Mrs. Hawthorne never recovered from Poppy's disappearance and sometimes, if Olive couldn't sleep, she could hear her mother crying in her room. (HOMEVID: The Inheritance)
