The Outer Space Defence Halo was part of Earth's defence in the early 23rd century. Transport of supplies and personnel to and from Earth and the Halo using shuttles was costly, which resulted in a contract being given to Raxle Technologies to devise a cheaper way of doing it by way of the Starship Ilium 1. Ultimately, Magnus Drake planned to make spacecraft obsolete for this purpose through Project Yellow Brick. (AUDIO: Faustian)
