Patrick Newell (27 March 1932-22 July 1988[1]) played Colonel Faraday in the Doctor Who television story The Android Invasion.

However, Newell's best-known role was undoubtedly that of the wheelchair-using British Government official codenamed "Mother", John Steed and Tara King's superior, in the seventh and final season of the espionage series The Avengers (1961-69), which was created by Sydney Newman.
