A pickaxe, sometimes simply referred to as an axe, (TV: Fear Her ^[+]Loading...["Fear Her (TV story)"]) was a hand tool with a head comprised of a counterbalanced spike and chisel, perpendicular to the handle. It was used to break apart hard ground or rock.

Rose Tyler borrowed a pickaxe, which Kel referred to as the "council axe", from Kel's council van to break apart the tarmac containing the Isolus pod. (TV: Fear Her ^[+]Loading...["Fear Her (TV story)"])
