A portable scanner was owned by Sarah Jane Smith. She kept it in the attic of 13 Bannerman Road. (TV: The Last Sontaran)

- According to the official The Sarah Jane Adventures site and the DVD extras of series 1, it was a mobile handheld device that allowed objects to be scanned when Mr Smith wasn't able to access them directly. The data could be transferred to Mr Smith for analysis.
