Donatien Alphonse François de Sade, Marquis de Sade, (PROSE: The Man in the Velvet Mask) also known as Prisoner 6 or Monsieur le 6, was a French nobleman. (PROSE: The Adventuress of Henrietta Street, The Man in the Velvet Mask)
During the Reign of Terror he was imprisoned in the Vincennes prison, where he was labelled "Prisoner 6". He narrowly survived prison, as his execution was postponed due to a clerical error, and in the interim the Reign was overthrown.
