Raiders of the Lost Ark
Raiders of the Lost Ark was the first of the Indiana Jones films. Donna and Blake watched the film on VHS at their house. (PROSE: Remain in Light [+]Loading...["Remain in Light (short story)"]) The plot of the film involved Nazis looking for an ancient artefact. Andy Hansen quoted dialogue from the film several times in Hollywood, 1940. (PROSE: The Egyptian Falcon [+]Loading...["The Egyptian Falcon (novel)"]) Kevin Alperton recalled the scene in the warehouse where artefacts were hidden away. (PROSE: The Crawling Terror [+]Loading...["The Crawling Terror (novel)"])
Bill Potts recalled a scene from an Indiana Jones film in which he had to take a leap of faith. She initially confused it with Raiders of the Lost Ark but could only remember it as the film with Sean Connery in it. (PROSE: Plague City [+]Loading...["Plague City (novel)"])
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
Harrison Ford starred in the film as Indiana Jones. Paul Freeman played the main antagonist in the film, and briefly discussed it in the behind-the-scenes interviews for The Foe from the Future. Sonny Caldinez played the Mean Mongolian.
Raiders of the Lost Ark partially inspired Silver Nemesis,[1] the plot of which also features (neo-)Nazis hunting for a powerful artefact.
The eponymous lost ark is the Ark of the Covenant. A reference in The Death of Captain Jack to the Ark's supposed ability to melt peoples' faces is a nod to this film's climax. Kane's death in Dragonfire is also highly reminiscent of this scene in the film.
The film in Plague City which Bill Potts confuses this one with is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Director Toby Haynes played back a musical cue from Raiders of the Lost Ark while recording a scene from The Pandorica Opens to better guide his actors' movements. This music was then removed from the soundtrack of Pandorica, leaving his actors invisibly paced to a certain tempo.
The use of flambeaux in the cavernous "under Henge" in the episode was also directly inspired by the teaser to Raiders. (CON: Alien Abduction)
