Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Raymond Digby (PROSE: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (novelisation)"]) was a nurse in the 1920s. (TV: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (TV story)"]) His mother lived in London. (PROSE: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (novelisation)"]) In 1925, he was hired by Madge Cranleigh to help care for George Cranleigh (TV: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (TV story)"]) as Dittar Latoni had become ill looking after him on his own. One Sunday shortly after getting the job, he visited his mother, but kept the nature of his new job a secret. (PROSE: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (novelisation)"])

On the night of 10 June or the early hours of 11 June 1925, George attacked Digby and attempted to strangle him. (TV: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (TV story)"]) Digby feigned death and followed George into Ann Talbot's room as he believed that he would be blamed and would lose his high-paying job if anybody were to be hurt because of him turning his back on him. However, George killed him (PROSE: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (novelisation)"]) and hid his body in a cupboard. (TV: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (TV story)"])

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

Digby's body was found by the Fifth Doctor, but Lady Cranleigh had it moved to protect George. (TV: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (TV story)"])

Lady Cranleigh felt guilty for the deaths of Digby and James (PROSE: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (novelisation)"]) and eventually admitted that George was alive and responsible. (TV: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (TV story)"])

Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]

Digby was a professional and considered himself lucky to be employed by the Cranleighs, although he found looking after George unpleasant. He could be careless, however, and ignored Dittar Latoni's warnings as he believed him to be superstitious. (PROSE: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (novelisation)"])
