Schmidt was a member of Captain Walther Schwieger's crew aboard the U-20 in 1915.
In an alternate timeline, Schmidt was used by Coordinator Vansell in an attempt to kill the Fifth Doctor before he could alter history. He escaped his restraints and attempted again to kill the Doctor, but was shot dead by Helen. (AUDIO: The Sirens of Time)
