A sexton was the caretaker at a graveyard, in charge of overseeing and maintaining the grounds, as well digging the graves themselves.
Gordus was the sexton of the Field of the Dead on Omnia. After the Daleks outlawed reading and writing on Omnia, all names, data and epitaphs were removed from gravestones, and Gordus had to memorise all information related to the deceased. He allowed visitors to make their own markings upon the gravestones during the evenings, but made sure to remove them by morning, when the Watch might see their inscriptions.
