Shalin was the magic-maker for his tribe. As a child, he and his best friend Coyn decided to build a stone temple.
During construction of the temple, a slave was killed by a falling stone. Coyn wanted to sacrifice the slave's leader, Dorlan. Shalin was about to kill Dorlan when the Eighth Doctor and Sam Jones arrived. Sam rescued Dorlan while the Doctor met with Shalin. Shalin, recognising the power of the Doctor, asked him to kill Coyn, who was insane. Coyn overheard this, and killed Shalin instead. (PROSE: The People's Temple)
