::Mostly because it broke a large amount of the talk pages that the Welcome template was on. As I said I'd be happy for the development of a new alternate Welcome template. But going through and editing 2000 or so of everyone's talk pages to fix something that isn't broken seems somewhat tedious and unnecessary.
