::I know it doesn't make logical sense, but that's not new for Moffat. The Doctor's memory being wrong because the timelines are "out of sync", while obviously pseudo-technobabble nonsense, definitely implies that history is being changed, but only the most recent Doctor will remember the new timeline. It's not that the Doctor saw that Gallifrey was no longer there and assumed he had destroyed it: he specifically remembers destroying it, which is ''not'' what happens in ''The Day of the Doctor''.
