As best as I understand it, the Doctor begins to regenerate into the Fourth Doctor, but then reverts back into the Third, somehow. Is this considered a proper regeneration? Now I know that Eleven confirms in ''[[The Time of the Doctor]]'' that he'd regenerated exactly 12 times by that point — including Eight to War and Ten's regeneration back into himself in ''[[Journey's End (TV story)|Journey's End]]'' — so we can say with certainty that the Doctor doesn't count this as a regeneration.
