Complications with the production of the story led him to undertake a joint effort to rewrite its script. He later argued with then-[[producer]] [[John Nathan-Turner]] and lighting director [[John Dixon (technician)|John Dixon]] over differing visions about how to capture the story. Joyce was briefly fired from his position after the dispute, leaving then-production assistant [[Graeme Harper]] to oversee the latter half of the script. Joyce was quickly re-hired after the issues with productions were worked out.
