Besides, (not realising that there is more than one beast) Kar refers to the creature as "Eater of Light" three times within the script. I think I agree with 66 Seconds, that the Doctor is describing what sort of thing it is, rather than giving it a name, as he did the [[Dryad]]s earlier this series.
