References and continuity
Hi, the reason I have undone your edits is that they don't follow our requirements for those sections of story pages. Before I detail what we do and don't want for those sections, first I'd like to say that if an admin reverts an edit of yours, always ask first before re-adding the edit. We are a large wiki with a ton of rules, and it's very easy for new users to break multiple rules on their early edits. That's why the admins are here, to answer questions about the rules.
Just so you know, the References and Continuity sections are often confused by even veteran editors. But there is a difference, and we do have guidelines for each section.
:References section:
:* It is for nouns mentioned in stories that do not serve any importance to the plot.
:* We do not include citations in references, but we do require that at least one noun in each reference item links to a page on this wiki (and it can be a redlink if the page is not yet created).
:* References have to be visible or audible in the story, not allusions or assumptions.
:* There is no need to list items in the Reference section if they already exist on the page. For example, if someone in a story eats a satsuma, it can be mentioned in the Reference section: So-and-so ate a satsuma. However, if the satsuma figures in the plot and is mentioned in the plot section (like in The Christmas Invasion (TV story)), it doesn't need to be put in References.
:* Reference items should just be a mention of the person/place/item; they do not need to be described in detail. Readers who want to know more about, say, a satsuma, can click on the page for satsuma and read more there.
:Continuity section:
:* This section is for making connections between the story in question and another story.
:* The entries must be properly cited; see any story's Continuity section for how to properly cite.
:* Plot holes, discontinuities, and the like are not allowed on the story page in any section. They can only go in the story's page on Theory:Discontinuity index.
Hope this helps. Thanks, Shambala108 ☎ 22:24, August 20, 2018 (UTC)
