A member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers at the time of filming ''Doctor Who'', he subsequently obtained membership in the {{w|American Society of Cinematographers|American Society}}. As such, he was the first DP in the history of televised ''[[Doctor Who]]'' to be the member of a prestigious, by-invitation-only national society of cinematographers at the time of filming a ''Doctor Who'' story. Along with [[Ernie Vincze]], he remains one of only two similarly-credentialed DPs in televised ''Doctor Who'' history as of [[Series 5 (Doctor Who)|Matt Smith's first series]].
