Landing in 2022, the Thirteenth Doctor, Yaz, and Dan began looking for a "missing girl" poster on behalf of her mum. Meeting up, the trio shared that none of them had been successful in finding any information. However, they turned to a nearby alley wall and noticed three more "missing" posters alongside one advertising a Roman Empire-themed party and another advertising the Hydra's Gate History Society's ghost tour of the nearby Hydra Hall. Wondering if they were relevant, the Doctor and Dan decided to visit the hall while Yaz went party hunting.
Landing in 2022, the Thirteenth Doctor, Yaz, and Dan investigated a series of disappearing, ceeminfou centring on ghost tours at Hydra Hall. The Doctor and Dan visited the hall, meeting its owner Vera, while Yaz went ghost party hunting. Dan took a phone call from Yaz who said she'd found the Roman legionary party at the hall, so they hurried to the hall finding it seemingly restored to top condition with apparitions of Roman soldiers nearby. As they approached, the hall returned to normal, with them finding Yaz's smashed phone on the ground and a young boy, Sid, from 1942. Whilst the Doctor kept looking round, Dan took Sid to Vera and deduced from the boy's recollections of thr Hall that the cellar may be holding some kind of portal and went to investigate alone. He found the portal woth the Doctor, Yaz, and the missing people on the other side. With the Doctor sonicking the portal open, Dan and Yaz help her get everyone across, however the portal closed before she could join them. The Doctor managed to reopen it and reunited with them. Upon reaching Hydra Hall, the Doctor and Dan found the huge manor to be dilapidated and surrounded in gates adorned with no-entry signs, adding that any deliveries should be redirected to the Hydra Lodge cottage next door. They knocked on the door and the owner, Vera, invited them inside for a cup of tea once they confirmed they didn't want to buy the hall.
As the Doctor and Vera talked, Dan took a phone call from Yaz who said she'd found the Roman legionary party at the hall, causing them to leave Vera in a hurry.
Arriving at Hydra Hall, the Doctor and Dan found it glowing with energy, seemingly restored to top condition, with apparitions of Roman soldiers nearby. However, as they approached, the hall returned to normal as the Doctor discovered Yaz's smashed phone on the ground. As she picked it up, a young boy approached them, saying that the Germans "[had done] a number on the old house". Confused, the Doctor asks him what year it is, and he simply replied it was the same as it was yesterday: 1942.
Young boy named Sid explains to Dan that he is an evacuee from Hackney, failing to understand why Dan thinks he appeared from nowhere, meanwhile the Doctor makes a breakthrough using her sonic screwdriver on Yaz's phone and she runs towards the doorway of Hydra Hall.
Dan and Sid go to visit Vera, where Sid's gift of a banana makes him believe he might have died and gone to the afterlife. Vera agrees to look after him for the time being as Dan explains that the "gateway to hell" that she mentioned was likely responsible for transporting Sid eighty years into his future. However, his train of thought is interrupted by Sid saying that he recognises the girl from the "missing" posters, as he also saw Salonius sell her to the butterfly man at the market. Sid believes this means she will never be seen again. Dan asks Sid for more information on Hydra Hall, he explains that during the war, it was perfect for playing hide and seek, but one day while he was waiting in the cellar for his friends to hide, a bomb landed and Sid discovered a Roman legionary beckoning him through the rubble. Dan assumes the cellar may be holding some kind of portal and goes to investigate against Vera's wishes.
Descending into the dark basement of Hydra Hall, Dan accidentally stumbles upon the portal almost immediately, where he sees the Doctor, Yaz, and the group on the other side. With the Doctor sonicking the portal open, Dan and Yaz help her get everyone across as she promises to get all the aliens home soon. However, closes the portal forever, stranding Doctor on the other side as Yaz and Dan look on in horror. (COMIC: Hydra's Gate)

Final travels with the Thirteenth Doctor
A week after Dan began travelling with her and Yaz, the Doctor engaged a self-reset process that rendered her TARDIS temporarily unusable in order to purge it of the Flux's residue. As an unintended side-effect, she and her companions, now including Dan, became trapped in a time loop at ELF Storage in Manchester, alongside the building's owner Sarah and her eventual love interest Nick. A small Dalek execution squad infiltrated the building, trying to find and exterminate the Doctor, leading to the group being exterminated over and over again, resetting the time loop each time, until they found a way to escape the building before midnight while destroying the Daleks. During these events, Dan had a soulful conversation with Yaz, revealing that he had noticed that she had romantic feelings for the Doctor. When she confirmed it and told that she "didn't know what to do", he urged her to speak her mind to the Doctor, also advising the Doctor — who he knew was aware of these feelings — to stop avoiding the conversation and feigning obliviousness.
