By another account, the Doctor did not return to his exile and continued travelling in the TARDIS accompanied by Alistair. Upon visiting [[Skaro (Unbound Universe)|Skaro]], he helped [[Gillen]] and the other [[Thal (Unbound Universe)|Thals]] to stop the [[Dalek (Unbound Universe)|Daleks]]. He created a neutraliser which altered a Dalek's mind so that it would believe that it was the returned [[Davros (Unbound Universe)|Davros]]. This created some dissidence among the Daleks. However, when the new threat of the [[Quatch]] attacked Skaro, the Doctor suggested an alliance between the Daleks and Thals so that they could stop the Quatch, he and Alistair acting as the alliance's military leaders so that the Quatch could not predict what their opponents would do. With the Quatch defeated after the returned Davros sacrificed himself to destroy the equipment keeping them in this reality, the Doctor departed, although Alistair remained to help mediate the new Dalek/Thal alliance. Tracing an alien signal to [[1930s]] [[Berlin]], the Doctor became separated from Benny when she went to investigate disappearances with [[Wulf]] and traced the source of the signal to the [[Conformity Institute]]. There he discovered a [[Cyber-Planner]] and convinced it to deactivate its emotional inhibitor to prove its superiority. After it had a meltdown he killed it by removing a component and, after initially forgetting she'd gone, went in search of Benny. With the reluctant aid of Wulf's employer, he located her in a [[Cyberman]] base and intervened just in time to save her from [[Cyber-conversion]], using the component from the Planner to flood the Cybermen's brains with nonsense so they would close down. He took Benny back to the TARDIS to help her recover. The Doctor met up with Benny after she tracked down the partially-converted Wulf to his village. After she asked for some work to do to take her mind off things, he told her he had something to show her, ([[AUDIO]]: ''[[Wulf (audio story)|Wulf]]'') taking her to a museum in Berlin where an ancient rock gave off alien particles. They joined an archaeological expedition, unaware they were Nazi occulists, which was digging up the site the rock had been found in search of "the Vril". They discovered the dig site was actually a Cyberman intelligence trap but were unable to stop the Nazi archaeologists activating it. The Doctor attempted to use a golden statue against the awakened Cybermen, however the Cybermen revealed it and the particles had been planted deliberately to lure him and make him believe he could stop them.
