I don't currently own either ''[[The Essential Book of K9|The Essential Book]]'' nor ''[[Megabytes (anthology)|Megabytes]]'' (and they both seem generally difficult to get one's hands on currently), so I can't check whether there already is some as-yet-uncovered narrative reasoning behind the change, but shouldn't the redesign introduced in ''[[Short Circuit (comic story)|Short Circuit]]'' and carried forward into the next K9 book be spun off into its own article regardless, given that this one concerns one particular design of [[K9 Mark I|Mark I]]?
