Put shortly by someone who couldn't code his way out of a shoebox and merely observed proceedings: something went wrong with the new server, we scrambled around for a bit to restore partial functionality back on the ''old'' server to tide ourselves over. The background issue and misc. other glitches won't be a concern once we move to the new server over again; whether they will be fixed before then, I couldn't say for sure.
