:: Also I would suggest that we give material from the TV series priority over things introduced in other media, as those as more generally accepted by the majority of, er, people who actually care, no matter what the manual of style may say.
:: Or, to be more informal, if you say 'the Rani', most fans will say 'renegade Time Lord, played by Kate O'Mara, chemist, odd dress sense, Pip 'n' Jane' etc. Whereas if you say 'Ushas' the majority even of Dr Who fans will probably say 'who's that then?'
