Neither the Doctor nor his companions (who remain in the TARDIS in this story) are identified in this story. However, since it was published at around the time that ''[[The Three Doctors]]'' was broadcast, it is probably the [[Third Doctor]]. The only times that he had more than one companion was when he traveled with [[Jo Grant]] and [[Liz Shaw]] ([[PDA]]: ''[[The Wages of Sin]]'') and with Jo and [[Mike Yates]] ([[MA]]: ''[[Speed of Flight]]''). Since it is implied that Jo and Mike have a series of adventures with the Doctor, it is more likely the latter pairing.
