Grounds[[edit] | [edit source]]
The entry to the grounds of the palace was a double filigreed golden gateway, marked on one side by the Yellow River and the other by a forest. A pathway led from the archway entrance through the forest for two leagues, and to the palace itself. The palace stood in the middle of a large clearing, encircled by the forest. (PROSE: Marco Polo)
Palace[[edit] | [edit source]]
The palace was surrounded by a tall red-lacquered wall with a golden trelliswork along the top of the wall, with an equally-golden dragon at each corner. The gates, perhaps unsurprisingly, were also golden. Beyond the gates was a central dome, flanking spires, both of which were gold. (PROSE: Marco Polo)
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
In 1289, the First Doctor, Susan, and Barbara visited the palace along with Marco Polo's caravan, having travelled all the way from the Plain of Pamir. Shortly after their arrival, having discovered that Noghai's army was situated nearby in Karakorum, Kublai Khan instructed their immediate journey to the Imperial Palace in Peking.
