The father of Susannah Chambers owned the Martian shipping lanes in the 22nd century. He found a life-replicating entity in the sea who controlled his body and lured the cruise ship of Susannah's husband Alvar Chambers to it before he was consumed; Alvar's second ex-wife wanting to do anything to keep him alive. Susannah's father was devoured entirely to prolong its existence, along with Susannah herself. (COMIC: The Cruel Sea)
