Sweetness was a clone of Melanie Bush.
After getting married and living on Heritage, she and her husband Ben Heyworth wanted to have a child. However, Mel was too old by that point. She went to the geneticist Wakeling to help.
Instead of combining her and her husband's DNA, though, he made a clone of Mel. When she found out the truth, she got into a heated argument and Wakeling accidentally killed her. Ben went into shock and Wakeling took custody of the child, naming her Sweetness. After Wakeling's death, Cole raised her. She eventually wrote an autobiography, First of a New Breed.
