Symia was a Consul of Traken at the time of the Second Doctor, Jamie and Victoria's visit.
Symia was uneasy at the presence of aliens on the planet, fearing it would upset the delicate biomatrix of Traken. She suspected that the alien astronomer Neverglade's work was the cause of disturbing behaviour among the Trakenites.
Symia was proven right when Neverglade's model universe, as well as Viola's illusions, caused the Melkur to come to life and attack the people. After it was defeated, Symia asked Neverglade, Viola, and the Doctor and his friends to leave Traken. (PROSE: The Astronomer's Apprentice)
