TARDIS self-reset

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

The Doctor's TARDIS had the ability to "self-reset", clearing out incidental damage to reboot at peak functionality. The process required any crew to leave the vehicle for a lengthy period of time. When activated, it would put out a force field and everything stuck in said force field would be stuck in a time loop until the TARDIS had properly rebooted. Background[[edit] | [edit source]]

As the threat the Flux began to terrorise the universe, it damaged the Mouri on the planet Time, who were in charge of keeping time and space in order. As the Web of Time began to break down, Swarm predicted that the forces of time running wild would "really harm TARDIS". (TV: War of the Sontarans [+]Loading...["War of the Sontarans (TV story)"]) Additionally, the Flux itself briefly entered the Thirteenth Doctor's TARDIS control room through the open doors after a failed gambit on the Doctor's part to hold the ship back with vortex energy, (TV: The Halloween Apocalypse [+]Loading...["The Halloween Apocalypse (TV story)"]) a close encounter with the Flux which the Doctor would later imply in writing had been at least partially responsible for the damage. The damage caused the TARDIS to begin to heavily malfunction, with multiple doors appearing, crystals sprouting everywhere, and cobwebs covering pillars. (TV: War of the Sontarans [+]Loading...["War of the Sontarans (TV story)"], etc.) After the Flux was extinguished, (TV: The Vanquishers [+]Loading...["The Vanquishers (TV story)"]) the Doctor, finally having time to fix the TARDIS, worked out a plan to land on the sentient beaches of San Munrohvar where she thought she thought her, Yaz and Dan Lewis could spend some time while the TARDIS repaired itself via the self-reset.

She pulled a few levers which caused the TARDIS to flash in disco lights while the cogs started rotating and the controls and crystal pillars initiated repair mode. The Team ran out as the TARDIS threw up a huge force field and red cracks appeared on the police box shell. As it repaired, it threw the surrounding location and people into a time loop that grew shorter by one minute every loop. (TV: Eve of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Eve of the Daleks (TV story)"])
