Talk:Artie Maitland

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Full name[[edit source]]

Where did the full name come from? -- Tybort (talk page) 13:52, November 27, 2013 (UTC)

I just noticed and was wondering this as well. Mewiet 01:14, December 13, 2013 (UTC)
The footnote says it comes from the name of their wi-fi network, but this could be considered original research. After all, what if they were renting the house, and Maitland is the name of the land lord? Or what if they inherited the place from their maternal grandparents, whose name would be different from theirs? Although the producers likely intended for Maitland to be their last name, this is still speculation. If no one objects, I think we should move this page. We're using the text of episodes and other stories as the main valid sources We're using the text of episodes and other stories as the main valid sources for writing articles on this wiki. Literally everything about this wiki is "original research". But either way, no. On top of the Wi-Fi thing, in The Name of the Doctor, the Eleventh Doctor describes George as Mr Maitland. -- Tybort (talk page) 23:10, February 17, 2015 (UTC)
Tybort's right. We aren't wikipedia, and don't have a special rule against "original research". While you are right that we don't want speculation, we also don't apply it so strictly when authorial intent is clear, which it is in this case as described by Tybort above. There is no need to move/rename the pages. Shambala108 02:42, February 18, 2015 (UTC)
