Talk:Ascension of the Cybermen (TV story)

Further Cyberman variant[[edit source]]

Don't know if this has been spotted yet, but the episode features a further Cyberman variant - beyond the warrior class Cybermen at the end of the episode. If you look closely, when Yaz and Graham look out at the Cyber battlefield, the dead Cybermen appear to be a cross between the 2006 and 2013 models. 66 Seconds 11:00, February 24, 2020 (UTC)

Those are the same as the Cyberguards. They are also from that era. --DCLM 11:08, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
Except that the Cyberguards with Ashad are rusted versions of the Cybus-style Cybermen which appeared in A Good Man Goes to War. The ones in deep space have the Cybus heads, but the Iron-Man style body plate. 66 Seconds 15:46, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
Could you maybe post a picture so we all can see the difference. That would be great. :) --DCLM 17:57, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
Cross between 2006 era and 2013 era Cyber models.
See the picture on the right. The Cybermen in space have 2006 era helmets and 2013 era body plates, differing from previous variants and perhaps suggesting an evolutionary stage between the two. 66 Seconds 14:59, February 27, 2020 (UTC)
But isn't that what the Cyberguards were? And wasn't that also what A Good Man Goes To War implied too? --DCLM 15:39, February 27, 2020 (UTC)
Honestly from what I see they look like the Cyberguards, which in turn seem to be from A Good Man.... Those seen in that story did not have a 'C' on the chest plate, and neither does the Cyberguards in this story. --DCLM 15:46, February 27, 2020 (UTC)
Perhaps you see something I don't. --DCLM 15:48, February 27, 2020 (UTC)
Cyber model seen in A Good Man Goes to War
Cyber model seen in Nightmare in Silver
What I'm trying to say is: see the picture on the right of the 2006 era Cybermen. This shows the style of chest plate used in Closing Time and A Good Man Goes to War, as well as used for Ashad's Cyberguards in Ascension of the Cybermen. Despite having 2006 era helmets, the chest plates on the space Cybermen (shown above) are different, and appear to be those used for the 2013 era Cybermen, below right. Am I right in thinking that this is the first time a cross between these two types of Cybermen has been depicted? 66 Seconds 17:39, March 1, 2020 (UTC)
I think I can see what you mean. But perhaps we should have someone else should inspect this more deeply. --DCLM 17:57, March 1, 2020 (UTC)

Illogical pages[[edit source]]

Why are both parts of Spyfall listed on a single page, but this story have separate pages for its' parts 1 and 2? If it's about the titles being different for each part, shouldn't the old Hartnell serials have individual pages for each episode too? 51.15.166.240talk to me 15:38, February 24, 2020 (UTC)

Different titles? LetsPlayNintendoITA 15:51, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
Unless someone beats me to it, I will get back to you on that once I have some time to dig up the pertinent decisions. Shambala108 15:58, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
Yes, different titles. Like Heaven Sent (TV story) & Hell Bent (TV story). - UtherSRG 16:08, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, it's because they have different titles. This is the way it has always been done. Otherwise, as you said, we should also separate all the Classic Who episodes into separate pages (or at least the ones from An Unearthly Child up to, but not including, The Savages). Here's the catch on why we don't do that with the early Hartnells. Yes, the episodes each have their own titles, but they all have one over-arching title. The stories The End of Time and Spyfall both have one single title, with Part One and Part Two being separated on their single page, whilst all the other multi-parters each have different titles and therefore would warrant their own separate pages. Could you image a single page called "The Empty Child & The Doctor Dances", "The Hungry Earth & Flesh and Stone" or indeed "Heaven Sent & Hell Bent"? --DCLM 17:49, February 24, 2020 (UTC)
It's not illogical to do it this way. It's in fact the most logical way to do it. If a future multi-part story were to pop up again in which each episode had a different title but the full story itself had an overarching title, then we would do it the same way the early Hartnells were done; a single page containing the overarching story-title, with each part separately named on that one page. --DCLM 17:54, February 24, 2020 (UTC)

Took me three days, but I found these two forum decisions (and I think there are more, but can't find them yet):

I'll keep looking. Shambala108 01:16, February 28, 2020 (UTC)
