Talk:Doctor Strange

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

"Oh, we're using our made-up names."[[edit source]]

Dr. Steven Strange is his secret identity while "Doctor Strange" is his superhero name and we should go with the latter. See Wikipedia and the Marvel wiki. LegoK9 03:05, February 2, 2019 (UTC)

I agree. This is a fictional character within the DWU, and "Doctor Strange" is the name of that character, their alter-ego (or does that work the other way around?). I would not propose to rename Captain UK or Captain America, either. I don't think Capt America is literally named "[given name] America"; it's his alias.

In terms of fictional characters not FTRW, I also would not rename Professor X (fictional character) to "X (dab term)".

I agree with this idea, but when I proposed it back on Talk:Marple it was soundly rejected. Shambala108 03:53, February 2, 2019 (UTC)
Another point to consider. Whichever decision is taken, a redirect can be used to facilitate finding the page from the other variant. Amorkuz 09:50, February 2, 2019 (UTC)
Actually, I think LegoK9 is absolutely right but their post is easy to misread, as I did. The supposed quote in the heading is not from DWU. It cannot be used to determine the status/name of the character here. As far as DWU is concerned, "Doctor Strange" is the only name he has. Being a comic book character, this name would normally be an alias rather than honourific-last name, as in many other mentioned examples. That it happens to match his real human name is a coincidence, wih no in-universe confirmation. I would say that the rename is unnecessary until his real name is explicitly discussed in-universe.
