You're right that rank isn't the right term. In terms of how we categorise this page, species is certainly not right either. A good analogy is probably a queen bee which has biological properties which distinguishes it from others of its species, but most certainly is not a species itself. Queen bee unfortunately doesn't have a page so provides no precedent, however Wikipedia categories queen bees under "Beekeeping", "Bees" and "Insect reproduction". Analgous to "bees" would be Category:Dregs (which is a page that could easily be created) and analogous to "insect reproduction" would be something like Category:Leadership, which describes function of the intraspecies subdivision.
